Who is Jonny Welburn?
Working with Fluance since 2017, Jonny plays drums and sings vocals.
"I first started to play drums when I was about 11 years old. The interest came after watching The Blues Brothers at the theatre in Darlington (my home town) and my parents bought me a cheap second hand drum kit so I didn't have to keep air drumming all the time. I've been playing ever since.
My taste in music varies alot and I take influence from all kinds of stuff. My first ever gig was The Spice Girls, my first band T-Shirt was Slipknot and my go-to CD in my car is a Disney album, if that gives you an idea of my eclectic musical taste.
My musical background is no different. The first few bands I was in were heavy metal bands and I also played bass in a pop punk band, which was about to see a lot of success before we all decided to do different things with our lives. After that I did quite a lot of studio session work for various bands and artists from all kinds of genres. Pop, rock, ska, reggae, funk, disco, metal to name a few. More recently I've been playing in an acoustic duo singing Disney songs and cartoon theme tunes which I absolutely love. I've always thought playing music should be fun and make you smile, otherwise what's the point? Even sad music feels good to play, right?
Currently I'm playing in Fluance which has been one of the most challenging projects I have worked on. Prog rock wasn't a style I was very familiar with so having the opportunity to do something new has been great and over time I have fallen in love with the genre.
Working with Lane & Lane on Fluance and Hookstick projects still remains one of my proudest achievements. I hope to continue making great music with them for a long time to come."
